
About the Sjøbadet Association
Sjøbadet in Trondheim is a member-based association governed by its annual general meeting. Its purpose is to maintain and manage the buildings and assets of Sjøbadet—including wellbeing and environment—in a financially and resource-conscious way. The facility is a place for recreation, and members are expected to contribute to the community.

Rules for Use of Sjøbadet
1. Opening Hours and Access

Summer (June 1 – August 31): Open to the public. Hosts are usually present.

Winter (September 1 – May 31): Open to members and select public sessions.

Check sjobadet.no and social media for updates.

Members receive a personal electronic wristband for access.

Sauna is only available during scheduled hours.

Private parties are not allowed. Events may be arranged by agreement.

No cars or mopeds allowed. Bicycle parking is available at the entrance.
2. Membership, Guests, and Payment
Membership Details

Sjøbadet is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization.

New members are admitted once a year via lottery (usually in August).

No waiting list. Membership is not assigned outside this process.

Membership is personal and valid year-round.

Wristbands must be worn on site. Lost wristbands can be replaced for a fee.

Membership runs from May 1 to April 30. Prices are set by the annual meeting.
Member Responsibilities

Follow rules and show respect.

Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.

Participate in volunteer work when needed.

Alcohol or drug use is prohibited. Violations may result in removal.

Email styret@sjobadet.no by March 31.

3. Safety and Responsibility

Swimming is at your own risk. No lifeguard present.

Over 15: Must be able to swim. Under 15: Must be supervised.

Tide levels vary—check depth before diving.
-
Never swim alone.
-
Alarm system is connected to a security company.
-
Report unsafe or unpleasant incidents to a host or sauna attendant.

Dogs

Not allowed during public summer hours.

Outside opening hours: Allowed on outdoor areas if leashed and supervised.

Be considerate of other bathers.
4. Facility and Sauna Use – Rules and Etiquette
Changing Rooms

Lockers available—bring your own padlock.
-
Do not keep lockers locked when not on site.
-
Valuables may be stored in changing room or entrance area.
-
Keep rooms tidy. Remove hair from showers. Do not store clothing.

Lost items kept for one week. Weekly cleaning by service provider.
Before Entering Sauna

Shower or take a sea bath.

Dry and rinse feet.
-
Leave footwear outside.
Inside Sauna

Sit on your own towel.
-
Towel must cover seat and feet—no skin contact with wood.

Swimwear or covering rules vary—follow posted instructions.

Only fresh water allowed in bucket and on stove.
-
Ask before pouring water—be considerate.
-
No glass or phones inside. Water bottles stay outside.
-
No grooming (shaving, scrubbing, brushing, etc.).
Etiquette

Greet others—it creates a friendly atmosphere.
-
Keep a quiet tone—not everyone wants to talk.
-
Respect personal space—ask before sitting close.
-
No staring or inappropriate behavior.
-
Help others if they feel unwell. Call 113 if needed.

If dizzy, exit sauna and notify attendant.
-
Consult a doctor before use if pregnant or with health risks.
5. Photography and Attire

All photography of people requires consent. Violations may lead to removal or police report.

Swimwear required in shared areas and diving tower.
-
Exceptions apply during sauna-related bathing (spring to autumn equinox).

Nude bathing allowed outside summer opening hours and during winter.
-
Nude sunbathing allowed in men’s and women’s sections.
-
Men’s section closed for nude sunbathing when sauna is in use.

No nudity allowed on the bathing raft.
